What Is English 9–10 (Article 1)
English is spoken in 186 countries, making it the most widely spoken language in the world.
English 9–10 is a course that helps students improve important English skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
This class also prepares students for higher-level courses and teaches more advanced vocabulary that is useful in writing and communication.

English 9 (article 3)
If you took Humanities 8, English 9 will feel much easier. Many topics are similar, but English 9 goes deeper. After reading stories, you often do projects to explain themes, hidden meanings, and details the author doesn’t directly tell you. You also learn about the connections between language and culture.

Humanities 8 (article 2)
Humanities 8 is a combination of Social Studies and English. Some students find this class harder than others because it often involves taking notes and doing projects. Even though it may feel boring at times, Humanities helps students improve their English skills, especially for those who have completed ELL. Students also develop better communication, writing, and listening skills.

In Grade 10 English, there are two course types:
-
Composition and Spoken Language 10 – focuses on developing strong written and spoken communication skills.
-
Literary Studies and Creative Writing 10 – designed for students who are interested in literature and creative writing.

ELL (ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING)

Students who struggle in English may have access to different support classes to help them improve before moving on to regular English classes.
ELL helps students develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. It also supports students in joining regular classes, understanding Canadian culture, and contributing successfully to Canadian society.
If you pass ELL 4, you no longer take ELL classes and instead move on to Humanities or other English courses.
